Welcome back!!
It’s been so long since I uploaded a review and I am so sorry for that. Anyways, I am here now and today, I will be reviewing the second book in the book series; an ember in the ashes. If you haven’t read the first book then sadly, this is where I will have to ask you to stop reading this review and tap the link below.
A touch against the night continues where the first book ends.
Laia and Elias embarks on a journey to Kauf prison to save Darin (Laia’s brother) and Marcus (the new Empire) orders Helene (his blood shrike and Elias’ best friend) to go after them. Majority of the events takes place on the road. The characters are traveling for the most part of it.
The story is character driven. Helene Aquilla’s character is really explored in this book, she is loyal to a fault. I love that we are able to see things from her perspective and understand her unlike in the first book. I got to love her character a bit more than I did initially.
Laia’s character is a bit contradicting, there were times I just wanted to shake her and ask her what the hell is wrong with her!!
Elais is strong and amazing. His character is easy to fall in love with.
It has an engaging plot, a bit of violence (okay, maybe just a little more than a bit) but the pacing is a bit slow compared to the first book, it took the entire book for Laia and Elias to get to their destination and half way through, I just wanted to know what would happen when they arrive at Kauf prison, is Darin still alive or not?
The love triangle is crazy and at some point I just wanted everything to stop.
I gave this book four out of five stars because of the slow pacing. Regardless, it is an amazing book and you should definitely read it.
See you soonπ.
