Hi everyone,

If you read my reviews, you would notice that towards the end, I usually rate each book. I either give it a five, four, three, two or one star. In this blogpost, I will be stating some key factors that determine how I rate books.

What makes a book 5 stars?

1) Fast pacing with an intriguing storyline.

2) The story is character driven.

3) The character development is on point.

4) It has an amazing plot twist.

5) The suspense is epic.

6) I am unable to predict the direction of the story.

7) It has a mind blowing climax.

8) I definitely recommend it and would most likely read it again.

What make a book 4 stars?

1) Amazing storyline but the pacing is slow and steady.

2) The suspense is okay.

3) Character development is slow and steady.

4) I can predict the direction of the story.

5) I could recommend it but most likely would not read it again.

What makes a book 3 stars?

1) It has an okay storyline.

2) The author is more concerned with either the storyline alone or the character development alone. There is no balance.

3) Half way through and I can already predict the end.

4) I can easily put the book down and pick it up whenever I want to.

5) I would only recommend it to specific readers and definitely will not read it again.

What makes a book 2 stars?

1) Poor storyline.

2) Poor character development.

3) Poor plot twist.

4) No climax.

5) No suspense.

6) It is not character or plot driven.

7) I will not recommend it.

What makes a book 1 star?
