Children of virtue and vengeance is the second book in the trilogy (the legacy of orisha). The review for the first book, children of blood and bone is already on my blog, I suggest you read that review and the book before you begin with this one.
We are in a fantasy world of Orisha set in Nigeria where the people with magic are being treated as second class citizens. Zelie, Tzain and Amari were able to bring back magic (more details in my review on book one).
Amari tries to recover the throne but finds out that her mother is still alive and is determined to destroy everyone in the maji clan. Inan who was thought to be dead at the end of book one is actually alive and takes over as the king after Amari killed her father, king Saran. Zelie has to kill Inan inorder to win this war.
A lot of conflict arise as we dive deeper into the book. Conflicts between Zelie and Inan, Zelie and Amari, Amari and Inan, Tzain and Amari. This seems like an endless journey, and we keep asking ourselves this question, will Zelie be able to win this war?
I never really understood the queens intention, and the reason behind her hate for the maji clan, I wish it was explained better in the book. At least in book one, we got a glimpse of why King saran hated magic but book two just left us hanging.
Character wise, the character personality changed in this book, it was like they weren’t the same people in book one. Some part of this was cool while some part was just frustrating.
Basically, the lead characters want the same thing but their approach are different and I loved how this played out.
I like the way it ended, just left us wanting more. I was like noooo! This can’t be the end, can book three come out already?!
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on good reads because I wish the reason behind the queens rage towards the Maji was clear. I love it so much and I can’t wait to read the third book. You, yes you reading this review should definitely pick up this book. I promise, it is going to be worth your time.
